Auto Body Shops & Insurance: How They Work (and Sometimes Don’t)

The Truth Behind the Team-Up (and the Turf Wars)

After a car accident, you're likely dealing with both an auto body shop and your insurance company. At Victory Auto Body and Paint in Burbank, we know how important it is to explain the relationship between the two—and where your rights as the customer come in.
Here’s how the process typically works, and what you should know.

1. Insurance Direct Repair Programs (DRPs)
Some auto body shops are part of an insurer’s Direct Repair Program. This means they have a partnership where the shop agrees to pre-negotiated repair rates and processes. While this can make the claims process smoother, it doesn’t always mean you’re getting the best parts or repair options.

Victory is an independent shop. We work for you, not the insurance company—so we never cut corners just to meet an insurer’s quota.

2. You Have the Right to Choose Your Repair Shop
California law protects your right to have your vehicle repaired at the shop of your choice. Your insurance company might suggest a “preferred” shop, but they can’t require it. Victory Auto Body and Paint will work with any insurance provider on your behalf.

3. Estimates and Repair Authorization
We provide a detailed repair estimate based on your vehicle’s needs. Once submitted to your insurance adjuster, they review it for approval. We handle that communication so you don’t have to worry about the back-and-forth.

4. OEM vs. Aftermarket Parts
Insurers often push for cheaper aftermarket or recycled parts. At Victory, we always recommend OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts when available—because they’re safer, more durable, and fit your car perfectly.

5. We’re On Your Side
Our loyalty is to the quality of your repair and your peace of mind. If we believe your insurer is trying to undercut the repair, we’ll advocate for what’s best for your vehicle—even if it means pushing back.

Final Thoughts
You trust your body shop to restore your car—and you should be able to trust that they’re looking out for you, not just your insurer. At Victory Auto Body and Paint in Burbank, we’re proud to fight for our customers and provide repairs that meet the highest standards.
