The Future of Summer Driving: Self-Driving Cars, EVs, and the Body Shops That Will Keep Them Safe

The future still needs repairs.

Summer driving has changed a lot over the years. In the past, a road trip meant paper maps, cassette tapes, gas station pay phones, and cars with very few electronics. Today, drivers use GPS, apps, backup cameras, charging stations, Bluetooth, driver assistance systems, and vehicles that are more computer than machine in many ways. The future will bring even more change.

Electric vehicles will continue to grow. Hybrid systems will keep improving. Cars will become more connected. Driver assistance features will become more advanced. Some vehicles may handle more driving tasks on their own. Interiors may become more like mobile living spaces. Exterior designs may change as aerodynamics, cameras, sensors, and battery placement influence how vehicles are built.

All of that is exciting, but it also means collision repair will become even more important and even more technical. The body shop of the future will not only repair dents and paint panels. It will need to understand electronics, sensors, advanced materials, manufacturer repair procedures, calibration, battery safety, and complex vehicle systems.

Even today, we are already seeing this shift. Bumpers can hide radar. Mirrors can hold cameras. Windshields can support lane-keeping systems. Panels may be made from aluminum, high-strength steel, or composites. Paint colors can involve complex multi-stage finishes. A repair that looks simple from the outside may require careful planning behind the scenes.

Summer driving makes these changes easy to notice. Families are taking electric vehicles on road trips. Drivers are relying on adaptive cruise control during traffic. Parking sensors are helping in crowded beach lots. Backup cameras are used constantly. A vehicle’s technology is no longer optional luxury equipment. It is part of everyday driving.

At the same time, the basic needs have not changed. Drivers still want honesty, quality, communication, and a repair shop they can trust. They want their car to look good, drive safely, and feel right after an accident. They want guidance from people who understand the repair process and can explain it clearly.

Victory Auto Body and Paint has served the Burbank community for over 40 years, and that history matters. A shop that has been part of the community has seen the industry change from older metal-bodied cars to today’s advanced vehicles. The best repair shops respect the past, handle the present, and prepare for the future.

Whether your car is a classic, a daily commuter, a luxury vehicle, an electric car, a hybrid, an import, or a domestic SUV, the repair should be approached with care. The future of driving may be high-tech, but trust will always matter.
